The’Piano Conti OP Its history dates back to the 1980s, when brothers Bartolomeo and Domenico Galanti set up their farming business in Scicli. Since then, the project has grown over time thanks to the experience gained in the field and a commitment to practising sustainable agriculture, capable of evolving whilst maintaining its connection with the local area.
In the 2025 this path is consolidated with the establishment of the’Piano Conti OP. The transition to becoming a Producers’ Organisation represents a natural step in the organisation’s growth: from a family business to an organisation capable of coordinating, planning and promoting the work of several farms.
Today The OP brings together 33 members in Scicli, in the province of Ragusa; here we manage over 35 hectares We carry out direct production and coordinate significant volumes supplied by our member companies.
Our production is dedicated to fresh vegetables grown in greenhouses all year round. Tomatoes, but also cucumbers, aubergines, courgettes, and peppers. Alongside the most common produce, we also cultivate specialities such as yellow courgette, appreciated for its delicate flavour and distinctive colour.
Having historically been present in traditional fruit and vegetable markets, we now collaborate increasingly with the Large-scale Retail (large-scale retail), which is the main channel through which our vegetables reach consumers’ tables every day.
This activity is underpinned by a solid operational structure: every day we handle around 45,000 tonnes of tomatoes grown on our own farms and others 25,000 tonnes of vegetables delivered by members to our warehouse.
Our operational site covers an area of 2,000 square metres, equipped with state-of-the-art processing lines and spacious cold stores, enables the efficient organisation of the sorting, packaging and distribution stages.
Innovate, for us, this does not mean turning our backs on the local area, but finding new ways to promote it; it means combining the experience we have gained over time with the opportunities offered by technology, whilst keeping the work of local farms at the heart of what we do.
Every day, we work to build an agricultural system capable of growing without losing its identity: a form of agriculture that looks to the future, yet continues to recognise the land as its source and its strength.
